About Interval Ear Training
An interval is the distance in pitch between two notes, measured in semitones. Recognising intervals by ear is one of the most useful skills a musician can develop — it lets you identify chords by sound, transcribe melodies, and understand why progressions feel the way they do.
Press Play to hear an interval, then select which interval you think it is from the answer grid. Choose Ascending (lower note first), Descending (higher note first), or Harmonic (both notes at once) to train different listening skills. Basic mode covers the most common intervals; All mode includes every interval from the minor 2nd to the octave.
Tip: Learn one interval at a time using a reference song (e.g. a Perfect 5th sounds like the Star Wars theme). The interval table at the bottom of the page lists common reference songs for each interval.
